Preventing Jaundice

3rd time around we've learned to not wait to find out if our child is jaundice. The assumption is YES so go ahead and start treatment. His first 2 days home he spent lots of time in indirect sunlight. Although we still noticed he was a bit tan on Monday, he was nowhere near as tan as Caleb was after birth. We stopped in at the pediatrician on Monday for a weight check and jaundice check. His weight was down 10 ounces to 7 pounds, 3 ounces and then we got sent to the hospital for a blood draw for jaundice. That evening we got a call that his jaundice number was 9, which meant all was fine. We were instructed to continue the indirect sunlight.
Today we went in for a one week well check and his weight was up to 7 pounds, 4.5 ounces. YEAH! He gained 1 1/2 ounces in 2 days. Very good for a James baby on breast milk only. Let's hope the weight gain continues.

both my little ones were jaundice.
Kaitlyn's was so bad that she had to be in a "tanning bed" every hour of the day for a while (except when she was eating).
What torture for a brand new mom! :)

Glad he is doing so well.

Hooray for the good bili levels and the weight gain!! The offer of milkshakes still stands -- just let me know. :)

Love the pics of Brenner in the sun. We'll be tanning as well. Gracie had a touch of jaundice, but her pediatrician always thought it was worse than it was since I'm so pale and my partially Filipino children have such lovely skin tone. Like you, we have no plans to wait for bad news.

I'd rather lose pounds - not ounces.
